Goodbye!

After the excursion, all the students met up with their friends after dinner to say goodbye. It was sad to say goodbye to so many new friends.

However, many of the students will keep in contact with using English as their form to communicate via the internet.

Después de la excursión, los estudiantes se reunió con sus amigos después de la cena para decir adiós. Es triste decir adiós a muchos nuevos amigos.

Sin embargo, muchos de los estudiantes se mantendrán en contacto con el uso de Inglés como su forma de comunicarse a través de Internet.

Stonehenge

Our final excursion was too the world famous Stonehenge. We were lucky to have a very knowlegdeable coach driver who helped me explain the features of the prehistorical landscape as we approached the monument.

It was a memorable excursion for all of us!

Nuestra excursión final fue al famoso Stonehenge. Tuvimos la suerte de tener un conductor del autobús muy bien informado que me ayudó a explicar las características del paisaje prehistórico cuando nos acercamos al monumento.

¡Fue un excursión memorable para todos!

Salisbury Cathedral

We began our final excursion early on Saturday morning. Firstly we travelled to Salisbury. This ancient city concerves much of it's character dating back 800 years.

We visited the area around the 13th century cathedral, inside the cathedral and the Salisbury market. The cathedral was built is in just 28 years and contains the world's oldest working clock.

Comenzamos nuestra excursión final el sábado por la mañana. En primer lugar fuimos a Salisbury. Esta antigua ciudad concerves gran parte de su carácter que se remonta 800 años.

Visitamos el área alrededor de la catedral del siglo 13, en el interior de la catedral y el mercado de Salisbury. La catedral fue construida en tan sólo 28 años y contiene el reloj más antiguo del mundo que funcionar.

The Last Supper : La Última Cena

We met up for pizza in Brighton with the other Italian groups and the restof our group. (We planned to have Fish and Chips but we ate that for lunch!) The food and service was great. Well done to Marta who organised the paying of the bill.


Nos reunimos a comer pizza en Brighton con los otros italianos y el resto de nuestro grupo. (Se planificó Fish and Chips, pero comimos lo mismo para comer!) La comida y el servicio era excelente. Enhorabuena a Marta, que organizó el pago de la factura.

The walk up to Devil's Dyke

Steve kindly offered to lead a group of Spanish and Italians up to Devil's Dyke, a 90 minute walk from the school. Along country lanes and through summer fields, we enjoyed the English countryside at it's best.

The views from the South Downs (a National Parque)and across the valleys were memorable. We then took an open topped bus to Brighton to meet the rest of the group in Brighton for pizza.

Steve amablemente se ofreció a liderar un grupo de españoles e italianos hasta 'Devil's Dyke', un paseo 90 minutos de la escuela. A lo largo de caminos rurales ya través de los prados de verano, disfrutamos el campo Inglés en su mejor.

Las vistas desde las South Downs' (un Parque Nacional) y de los valles fueron memorables. A continuación, tomaros un autobús cubierto abierto a Brighton para reunirse con el resto del grupo en Brighton para comer pizza.

Our last day of classes

It was sad to say goodbye to our classes but fun too. Friday was another beautiful day. Every student received their certificate in the evening and Andy kindly offered to DJ!

Era triste decir adiós a las clases sino también divertida. El viernes fue un día hermoso. Cada estudiante recibió su certificado en la noche y Andy se ofreció amablemente a DJ!

Shopping and Bowling

It rained today! We went shopping in the North Lanes of Brighton. Here the shops were independent, trendy and fun to visit. After dinner, we took taxis to Brighton Marina to go bowling.

Llovió hoy! Nos fuimos de compras en los North Lanes de Brighton. Aquí las tiendas eran independientes, modernas y divertidas para visitar. Después de cenar, tomamos los taxis a Brighton Marina para ir a la bolera.

Barbeque and outdoor games

Loxdale provided an enjoyable range of activities every evening. This evening we played giant table football, giant chess, Twister, Connect 4 and other games. It encouraged the students to mix and speak English. There was a genuine friendly ambience at Loxdale. We finished the evening with a barbeque, cooked by Dan.

Loxdale proporcionan una agradable gama de actividades todas las noches. Esta noche hemos jugado al fútbolin gigante, ajedrez gigante, Twister, cuatro en linea y otros juegos. Se animó a los estudiantes a mezclarse y hablar Inglés. Había un ambiente genuinamente agradable en Loxdale. Terminamos la noche con una barbecoa, cocinado por Dan.

The Disco: Gala writes....

The other day, we went to a disco in Brighton. It was really good because we went with other students and we could meet friends there too.

There was a lot of good music and we danced a lot. There were a lot of people too! There were singers but I don't know who they were.

I loved the experience because I've never been in a disco before.

El otro día, fuimos a una discoteca en Brighton. Fue muy bueno porque fuimos con otros estudiantes y que podría reunirse con amigos allí también.

Había un montón de buena música y bailamos mucho. Había un montón de gente también! Hubo cantantes, pero no sé quiénes eran.

Me encantó la experiencia porque nunca he estado en una discoteca antes.

Beachy Head

We spent another wonderful afternoon in the sunshine as we visited Beachy Head, an hour or so from Brighton. Beachy Head is part of the 'Seven Sisters' line of chalk cliffs. The area has an infamous history of smuggling and has a famous lighthouse. We learnt about local geography, history and geology...amongst other things!

Pasamos otra maravillosa tarde en la luz del sol ya que visitamos Beachy Head, una hora más o menos de Brighton. Beachy Head es parte de la línea de 'Siete Hermanas' de acantilados. El área tiene una historia infame de la trata y tiene un famoso faro. Hemos aprendido acerca de la geografía local, historia y geología ... entre otras cosas!

Karaoke

Nearly everyone entered the karaoke. Pop, rock, reggae and punk songs were sung by Chinese, Spanish, Italian, Saudi, Russian and Swedish students. Great fun!

Casi todo el mundo entró en el karaoke. Pop, rock, reggae y punk, canciones fueron cantadas por los estudiantes de China, España, Italia, Arabia Saudita, Rusia y Suecia. Muy divertido!

Lewes

In the afternoon, we took the train from Portslade to Lewes. Lewes is a historical town with an 1000 year old castle, links to Henry VIII and the home of Viginia Wolfe.

Por la tarde, tomamos el tren de Portslade de Lewes. Lewes es una ciudad histórica con un castillo de 1000 años, conexiones con Enrique VIII y la casa de Virginia Wolfe.

London

On Sunday, wehad a tour of London. We began at the Houses of Parliament and relaxed on the lawn outside the Palace of Westminster. Next we visited Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and the changing of the guard.

El domingo tuvimos una gira por Londres. Empezamos a las Casas del Parlamento y relajado en el césped frente al Palacio de Westminster. A continuación visitaron el Big Ben, Buckingham Palace y el cambio de guardia.

Next we had lunch in Green Park. Unfortunately there were huge queues outside the 'Hard Rock Café' so we went shopping in Covent Garden. Some students went to the National Gallery. We met at the Olympic Clock in Trafalgar Square.

Finally, we walked past 10 Downing Street to join our coach again.

A continuación almorzamos en el Green Park. Por desgracia había colas enormes fuera de la 'Hard Rock Café', así que fuimos de compras en Covent Garden. Algunos estudiantes fueron a la Galería Nacional. Nos reunimos en la reloj olímpico en Trafalgar Square.

Por último, se pasó 10 de Downing Street a unirse a nuestro autocar.

Butlins Holiday Park

We took the coach to Bognor Regis on Saturday. The water park had an exhilarating water chute and some students enjoyed trying the 2 penny machines (a seaside tradition game in Britain). It was another very hot day.

Tomamos el autobús a Bognor Regis, el sábado. El parque del agua había un tube de agua estimulante y algunos estudiantes disfrutaron de tratar las máquinas de 2 pence (un juego de tradición costera en el Reino Unido). Fue otro día muy caluroso.

Making Friends: Laura writes...

On Saturday, Marta Romero, Marta Carmona and Laura Cuevas were in a park and there were some English girls and a boy. A girl began to speak with us and from this moment we were talking for a long time.

Then we accompanied them to their house and finally we went back to our house.

El sábado, Marta Romero, Marta Carmona y Laura Cuevas estaban en un parque y había algunas chicas Inglésas y un niño. Una niña comenzó a hablar con nosotros y desde ese momento estábamos hablando durante mucho tiempo.

Luego los acompañó a su casa y, finalmente, regresamos a nuestra casa.

Class Observations

Most mornings I have the opportunity to observe the class in order to see how the students are progressing. There is a good mix of grammar teaching and fun activities. Steven took the opportunity of the splendid weather to sing with his class in the garden.

Casi todas las mañanas tengo la oportunidad de observar la clase con el fin de ver cómo los estudiantes están progresando. Hay una buena mezcla de enseñanza de la gramática y actividades divertidas. Steven tuvo la oportunidad de un tiempo espléndido para cantar con su clase en el jardín.

Adam was also superb teacher. Here he is teaching children about the real way English people ask questions.

Students then practised the phrases. They were engaged and active during the whole lesson and they clearly enjoyed the class.

Adán también era un maestro excelente. Aquí está enseñando a los niños acerca de la verdadera forma de que la gente Inglés hacen preguntas.

Luego, los estudiantes practican las frases. Estaban activos durante toda la clase y que claramente disfrutó de la clase.

Talent Show

Many of the students took part in the talent show. It was great to see students do something they have never done before! Here we have students from Spain, Italy, Sweden, Saudi Arabia and two English teachers dancing the Macarena.

Muchos de los estudiantes participaron en el concurso de talentos. Fue genial ver a los estudiantes que hagan algo que nunca han hecho antes! Aquí tenemos a los estudiantes de España, Italia, Suecia, Arabia Saudí y dos profesores de Inglés bailando la Macarena.

Andy took Andrés, Honorio and two Italain students to a studio one afternoon to practise the Rolling Stones song ¨Satisfaction (I can't get no)."

Rounders

In the afternoon all of our group played 'Rounders' a traditional British team game popular in schools. It is like baseball. The rules were explained in English and little by little the students understood the complexities and strategies of the game. even those who don't normally like sport had fun. Points were even added for English phrases and points were deducted for Spanish!

Por la tarde, todos los de nuestro grupo jugaban 'Rounders,' un juego tradicional en equipo que es muy popular en las escuelas britanicas. Es como beisbol. Las reglas se explican en Inglés y poco a poco los estudiantes entender las complejidades y las estrategias del juego. Aquellos que normalmente no les gusta el deporte se divirtieron. Se añadieron los puntos, para las frases en Inglés y los puntos se deducen para castellano!

Games night

On Friday night the students played various games and sports. This group played 'Twister' with Andy, a member of the Loxdale staff.

El viernes por la noche los estudiantes jugaban varios juegos y deportes. Este grupo jugó "Twister", con Andy, un miembro del personal de Loxdale.

Andrés writes....

Since I came to Brighton, I have had such a good time. We have had many activities in Loxdale like sports and going on tours. I enjoyed 'rounders' and the karaoke in which I sang songs such as "Born to be Wild" or "Welcome to the Jungle."

But the most I enjoyed was the talent show. I played with other students and Andy "Satisfaction" from the Rolling Stones. I never loose my rock spirit anywhere!

Desde que llegué a Brighton, he tenido tan buenos momentos. Hemos tenido muchas actividades en Loxdale, como los deportes y realizar recorridos turísticos. He disfrutado 'Rounders' y el karaoke en el que yo cantaba canciones como "Born to be Wild" o "Welcome to the Jungle".

Pero la mayoría de los disfruté fue el show de talentos. Toqué con otros estudiantes y Andy "Satisfaction" de los Rolling Stones. Yo nunca pierdo mi espíritu de rock en cualquier lugar!

Disco at the Oceana

Over 150 students and staff from Loxdale joined other students and local under 18 year olds to enjoy a disco at the Oceana. Most of the students have never been to such a large and impressive venue. "¡Madre Mia!" I heard one student say as we entered.

The girls particularly enjoyed the night. Some of them chased the 'Boy Band' up the stairs as they left the club. There was a lot of screaming a a few kisses! An unforgettable night!

Más de 150 estudiantes y el personal de Loxdale se unió con otros estudiantes y locales de menos de 18 años de edad para disfrutar una discoteca en el Oceana. La mayoría de los estudiantes nunca han estado en un lugar tan grande e impresionante. "¡Madre Mia!" he oído decir un estudiante cuando entramos.

Las niñas en particular disfrutarán la noche. Algunos de ellos persiguió a los 'Boy Band' por las escaleras al salir del club. Hubo muchos gritos y unos pocos besos! Una noche inolvidable!

Sports Day

At the end of each school year, every school in Britain have a 'Sports Day'. Children take part in silly races where luck and less practised skills are an essential combination! It is competitive but not serious.

This afternoon, every student from Inglesya participated and enjoyed having a go.

Al final de cada año escolar, cada escuela en el Reino Unido tiene un 'Día del Deporte ". Los niños participan en las carreras de tonta donde la suerte y las habilidades menos appracticados son una combinación esencial! Es competitivo, pero no serio.

Esta tarde, todos los estudiantes de Inglesya participaron y disfrutamos de tener una oportunidad.

"Yesterday evening we played a lot of games at the team challenge. All of us enjoyed it and we met the Italian group. It was a lot of fun!"

"Ayer por la tarde hemos jugado muchos partidos en el desafío del equipo. Todos nosotros lo disfrutamos y nos reunimos con el grupo italiano. Fue muy divertido!"

First day, exams, a tour and games.

It is 20.45h and the students are playing teams games with their new international friends. I can hear lots of laughing and cheers and I can see lots of smiles and friendly faces. There is a lovely community feeling developing.

This morning the students took their exams. They will start formal classes tomorrow morning. We had a wonderful afternoon in the sunshine. We had a tour of Brighton. We went to the beach and passed the shops. Some of us had an ice-cream or a drink on the beach.

Es 20.45h, y los estudiantes están jugando en equipos con sus nuevos amigos internacionales. Puedo oír un montón de risas y vítores y puedo ver un montón de sonrisas y caras amables. Hay una sensación de encantadora comunidad en desarrollo.

Esta mañana, los estudiantes tomaron el examen. Van a empezar las clases formales mañana por la mañana. Pasamos una tarde maravillosa en la luz del sol. Tuvimos un viaje de Brighton. Fuimos a la playa y pasar de las tiendas. Algunos de nosotros había un helado o una bebida en la playa.

Bienvenido al blog de Inglesya Brighton 2011. El objectivo es compartir algunas experiencias mías y de los jóvenes mientras estamos en el Loxdale English Centre, Portslade, Brighton, England entre el 24 de julio y el 7 de agosto 2011.

Vamos a mostrar algunas fotos, vídeos y comentarios sobre nuestra estancia. Las familias y amig@s también pueden participar.

Me gustaría que los jóvenes de nuestro grupo participaran en este blog escribiendo algunos comentarios tanto en inglés como en castellano. Voy a corregir sus comentarios en inglés donde sea necesario.
